Justice for Aafia Coalition (JFAC)

Global Voice for Justice is one of the core members of JFAC – please support this new campaign for Aafia Siddiqui:

Sunday 28 March 2010 is the 7th anniversary of the kidnapping of Aafia Siddiqui and her children. To commemorate this, the Justice for Aafia Coalition (JFAC) has been formed – an umbrella organisation, currently spanning four continents, which aims to unite and direct all individuals and organisations concerned for our sister and working for her release.

We all should be aware of the plight of our sister Aafia Siddiqui who last month was convicted of the attempted murder of US soldiers in Afghanistan whilst in custody. The hidden side of this story is the fact that Aafia had been missing since 2003 and claims that she was kidnapped with her three children by the Pakistani intelligence services, transferred to US custody and held in a series of secret prisons away from her children for five years during which time she was repeatedly raped, tortured and abused. Two of her children remain missing to this day. Aafia’s trial was also flawed in that there was no evidence of any gun residue from the rifle she is alleged to have shot, no trace of her fingerprints on the rifle, no bullet shells found in the room or bullet holes in the wall. The testimonies of the soldiers conflicted with each other and with their own earlier statements. Despite the prosecution admitting Aafia was not a member of al-Qaeda or linked to any terrorist group, she was for all intents and purposes, tried as such. Her sentencing is on 6 May – she faces spending the rest of her life in an American maximum security prison. Since her conviction, she has been denied access to phone calls, sending or receiving letters, or any visits, in the interests of ‘national security.’

AAFIA SIDDIQUI DAY

Sunday 28 March 2010 is the 7th anniversary of the kidnapping of Aafia and her children. To commemorate this and to highlight Aafia’s case as symbolic of the brutality of the ‘war on terror’ with the aim of having her repatriated to Pakistan and launching an investigation into the whereabouts of her missing children, the Justice for Aafia Coalition (JFAC – www.justiceforaafia.org) has been formed – an umbrella organisation, currently spanning four continents, which aims to unite and direct all individuals and organisations concerned for our sister and working for her release In an international day of protest, we aim to have events, demonstrations, letter-writing campaigns, khutbahs, etc in towns and cities all over the world in solidarity with Aafia on the one day – 28 March.

All it takes is for each person to do the following:

a) Organise an event (or screening) in your locality; rather than asking us to supply speakers, people could spend one hour reading up on her case thoroughly and presenting it to his community. JFAC will aim to provide you with the necessary information pack to deliver a presentation. If people educate themselves on the case and do the talk themselves, it is more empowering than just having an external speaker come. If you are interested in organising an event or hosting a related documentary screening, please email events@justiceforaafia.org. All events will be publicised on our website.

b) Attend the Aafia Siddiqui Solidarity March, from the Pakistani embassy to the US embassy, in London on Sunday March 28th, 2pm. Promote this and for those living outside London, organise coaches to bring people down.

c) Get 20 people from your community to send a letter to both your local paper and a national paper in the week beginning 22 March. The letters should be short, to the point and mention Aafia Siddiqui Day, the kidnapping and detention, missing children and the event. The individual must collect the letters, buy the postage and envelopes and post the letters. You have 20 days from today to get 19 letters (excluding the one you send yourself).

d) Get 20 people (doesn’t have to be the same 20) to send a letter to Aafia that day , from children in particular. Even though she is currently being denied mail, if the volume is enough, they may just let a few through.

e) An information leaflet, campaign pack and other resources will be shortly available, along with translations of the campaign materials into as many languages as we can. The aim is that anyone in the world can then just print off their particular language and distribute, thereby empowering them and decreasing dependency.

f) Approach your local mosque or Islamic Society to dedicate their khutbah on Friday 26 March to the case of Aafia Sddiqui. A khutbah template will soon be available for download.

There are many other projects in development and events are confirmed for UK, USA, Pakistan, Canada, Ireland, and Australia.

If you would like to assist us in the campaign please email info@justiceforaafia.org.

Dr. Fouzia: Please listen to Mother!

My dear children, my dear sons, I am very proud of you that through Aafia, through a daughter like Aafia, he has given me wonderful sons like you. Allah Praise is due to Allah.

Yes, I am saying this to you write now, that Aafia is saying,

“Hairat na kar meray badan ko choor dekh ker”
Don’t be surprised by seeing that my stomach has been crumbled….
“Un Rifa-aton ko dekh jahan se gira tha may”
Look at the ranks from which I fell

Think about which nation, and what thing we belong to, from which of the Salaf’s children we are from, from who’s ummah we are from. Today is a day of happiness for us. I am a very fortunate mother that today Allah swt has selected my daughter that today America has received a black slap on her face. You will see, this punishment is not a punishment… This is nothing. I’m telling you that by announcing this punishment, today, America’s downfall has started.

(In the background: Takbeer! Allahu Akbar! Whoever is friend’s with America is a traitor!”)

…and from the (Pakistani) Nation, this is my appeal to you… I am very proud of you… and this is my appeal to you that please do not go on the streets to cause any damage (or commit any violence) on the streets (in protests). This country is our country. I say to you that the manner in which we have obtained it, you all are aware of it. We will not cause any kind of damage to our country. Maybe the Judge is thinking that in our home, we’re going to have a Matam, and that her mother is going to cry, she will faint. Tell him that today her mother has become alive, and she will tell him, and she will tell him, …

(In the background: Oh family of Aafia, we are with you! )

Until now, I didn’t use to go. They even know how my life has been and what I’ve….Okay, my condition was such that if it was someone else, she wouldn’t have even been able to get up. The condition I was in, the ailment that I had, ….Today, all of my ailments have gone. Today, I think even you, Fouzia, wouldn’t have been this happy, as much as I am happy today upon the punishment given to her. Today, she has told the nation that America’s (true) face has been unveiled. America speaks about establishing justice. Today, all Praise is due to Allah, by means of my daughter, He has unveiled the (true) face of America.

News reporter: Beloved Mother, as a mother, the decision has been announced… do you think that justice has been established?

Establishing justice… Justice was played around with (??) to such a degree that maybe they even forgave the Tartars. They have played around with it (??) to such a degree… their own Court says that, as you already know, her hand did not even touch the rifle and they announced the conviction to her.

Reporter 2: Beloved Mother, today, on this occasion, we sympathize (with you and her) and we declare that your guidance has it’s place–we won’t cause any damage (like to cars, etc.), but this decision will be made on the streets without any damage on the streets, Allah Willing. Allah swt and the whole nation is with you. Our sister, Aafia,… daughter Dr. Fouzia, ….

Reporter 3: The youth of this nation will get our sister released!

Reporter 4: A punishment (from Allah swt) came upon this nation. Do you think that the punishment (conviction) of Dr. Aafia is a punishment for America?

I have told you, that today, mark these words, mark these words, that generations (to come) will remember that, from today America’s downfall has started.

(Background: Allah Willing)

And this is a (unclear), this is a lot. This is just an ordinary/small thing. Like they say, it’s like the camel…since then……(unclear) don’t you know?

A Report: We are very proud of you.

Today, I… I knew all of this. When I first heard that Judge’s statements and I heard all these statements from these people, I had said to these people, that look, he’s the one who’s going to decide. We know he’s a Jew. We are not ignorant people.

My entire family… When my paternal grandfather, who was an Atomic General, during the British Rule, the Vice Roy had welcomed for him to be (unclear)…and what has happened to you?

My entire family, even my great grandfather (paternal), even he was very highly qualified/professional. He said that I am not resigning because of the greed or bribery directed (towards me) by you. I’m going to listen to my conscience.. that my nation has been shackled into slavery, and I am at your doorstep, having dinner. (Oh how I wish) that our nation and our leaders would understand (be guided by Allah swt).

So, today, Aafia has been present here since years. It wouldn’t have come to this point, if our own people… but khair, I am very grateful to the public and the media that I cannot lift my head up because of the great favour they have done, and at night, I (regularly) get up and make duaa to Allah swt for all of you. That oh Allah, these innocent, innocent children come at nights, and even at day time, they keep standing… and they do so much for their sister. So, Ya Allah, never give them any pain/difficulty. Ya Allah, make them successful. Ya Allah, don’t even ever give any of their coming generations any pain or difficulty, and keep them steadfast (firmly) upon emaan. Emaan is a very grand thing. Even Aafia… actually, I am the one that raised Aafia. I always advised her that never let your emaan out of your hands, and never lie, and remain firmly upon that which is True. Standing firmly on the Truth…

Reporter 5: Your daughter never bows in front of any oppression that comes her way. As a mother, how proud are you of her?

Indeed, not bowing (to such things) is the indication of a Mu’min. The one who bows what will happen to him!?

Female Reporter: Please tell us… the day before yesterday, you spoke to Hussain Altaf? and he consistently gave you hope that …

He still tries to give me hope… when I phone him… these Americans have guts. Haaqaani Sahib will still try to give hope… that “I will (personally go and) bring her. Keep my dinner ready, I will go now and get her.”

Reporter 6: These representatives are not American representatives; these are our representatives! If they knew how to play their role, they would be amongst us…

Female Reporter trying to speak…

Fouzia: Khawaja… Qureshi…

Shah Mahmood Qureshi Sahib… may Allah shower His Mercy (upon us)! All I can say is if Allah Guides Him, then okay.

Reporter: Shah, Hussain?, and Haqqani, are both playing the role of the American Government.

Okay, I think…
We will NEVER BEG for mercy!!!

Fouzia: Mother, please come inside.

Reporter: Allah Willing, this is the beginning of this story…Today marks the beginning of this story…

La howla wa la quwatta illa billah. If we have fallen down so much (in humiliation) that today, instead of Allah, that we ask the kuffaar for mercy, then I don’t think anyone will be worst than us.

Reporter broadcasting this: Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s mother could be seen talking to the media here. The zeal and enthusiasm with which she spoke, we had not hoped to receive from her. She is a mother, still she said that today, I have become alive and this is a big Mercy and Blessing from Allah swt upon me that by means of my daughter the (true) face of America has been unveiled. She said that not bowing (in submission to the oppression) is the symbol or mark of the believer.

Dr. Fouzia: Whatever has to be done.. whatever questions there are…

Reporter: Please tell us.. the false accusations upon her, as a doctor, what do you think that is this…

Its about time to stand up for ‘Aafia!

In the name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

In light of the recent unjust verdict handed down by a jury so blinded by hate, that despite the lack of any evidence decided to label our dear sister ‘Aafia Siddiqui as guilty.

Let this be a wake up call for the Muslim Ummah, a reminder that our people will continue to be persecuted until we stand up and respond to the cries of our sisters and children. Allaah alone knows how many more ‘Aafias are out there. And how many more children are being tortured and killed in the name of America’s [and the entire West] “War on Terror”.

Let us not show any weakness because even though our sister ‘Aafia has been through unimaginable ordeal, she has continued to stand tall and strong. Despite her frailty, she shines like a bright star leading us by an example.

The Global Voice of Justice has prepared a Campaign Pack which details her biography and case, and also mentions certain steps that can be taken to help our sister. These action items only require sincerity and dedication, not just to the cause of Justice but to the cause of Islaam. And if for whatever reason you are still too much of a coward to act, then you might as well dig a grave and bury yourself because if not today, then tomorrow and if not tomorrow then one day surely this will come to haunt you. The words of our beloved Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam are true when he said, that “He in whose presence a Muslim is humiliated and who does not help him, being able to help him, Allaah will humiliate him before all creatures on the Day of Judgement.”

Here’s a link to the Campaign Pack. Please take a few moments to go through the document and spread the link wherever you can.

Also, these are two leaflets that people are encouraged to print  and distribute on school and university campuses, mosques, Muslim stores, and their local Muslim communities:

Leaflet # 1

Leaflet # 2

We urge Muslims across the world to spread the word about her unjust captivity and to encourage everyone to take action against it. Its time to let go of all our fears and stand up for ‘Aafia!

O `Aafia: The tears would not stop flowing until the morning hours of Fajr‏

Bismillah Rahman Ar-Rahim

Asalamu ‘alaikum dear brothers and sisters

Two days ago, the 11th of January 2010, was the hearing of our dear and beloved sister Aafia Siddiqui. Her name and moving story have become so common amongst the media and amongst the internet by muslims all over the world, yet only 17 muslims showed up to support her. (Note: some people may have been muslims but I was unable to tell )

Approaching the court house stairs, I felt my heart begin to tremble with sorrow. I knew that what I was about to witness was going to strike me with intense feelings of desolation. You walk through the halls of the court and see various people smiling and joking and you think to yourself “Of course you’re laughing, what do you care about what my sister Aafia has gone through!” We entered the court room and sat down as the oppressive Judge walked in and everyone rose. We stayed seated and I thought how ridiculous for them to even expect us to stand up for this Judge, the Judge that strips the rights of our poor sister and does not even allow her to speak! Moments later they brought Sister Aafia in, a white hijab covering her head and concealed her face, the face which noor illuminated from despite being covered.

She was accompanied by US Court Marshalls. Instantly she turned around and spoke to us but sadly, what she said was inaudible. The judge and marshalls spoke over her and that made it difficult to hear what she was saying. The judge told her to stay quiet and to speak when he gave her permission to. She spoke back to him and said “You never give me a chance to talk!” She then turned around again and said to us “These are not my lawyers, I fired them!” They then made her sit in her chair where she rested her head on her arms on the table. The sketch artists on the left side sat there drawing her staring at her through binoculars and sketching away as if she was some piece of art work. Occasionally she’d lift her head and rest it on the back of the chair. She truly looked exhausted both physically and mentally. Nonetheless there was a strength emanating from her actions, in which she feared no judge or court marshall.

The prosecutors went on to say that they are not claiming she is part of Al-Qaeda or Taliban or knows any terrorists, but they are claiming she did shoot a gun and injure a special agent. Her defense team stated that there is no forensic evidence to prove that she fired any sort of gun. There are no prints and no DNA on the gun. These people lie against our sister and try to make her seem as if she is a lunatic who doesn’t know what she’s talking about, which is ironic since the Yahoodi judge claimed she is fit for trial. The government team sits their smiling and snickering all through the trial.

The US court marshalls sat there snickering and smirking the whole time as well. They kept turning around and looking at everyone that walked in. It was a man and a woman and the woman would turn and look at me and I would glare back at her. This goes to show you how they don’t even care about the ill-treatment they put Aafia through. They pull her in the courtroom forcefully and drag her out and they have no rahmah in their hearts.

After awhile, the judge ordered a 15 minute recess in which the male marshall ordered Aafia to get up, “Come on come on get up move it” he says and Aafia tries to say something (inaudible to me again) and he says “Come on move it stop talking.” He then grabbed her arm and pushed her out.

Imagine a filthy kafir pushing our dear sister in a rough manner! How dare he touch her??? There was a female marshall there , they do these things to spite muslims. How can the muslim ummah accept this and not fight for her release???? How can we just go about our daily lives and not be affected by this?? I saw this kafir pushing Aafia with my own eyes!! It’s a very heart breaking image to see. Imagine some man grabbing your mom or wife or sister by the arm and shoving her around as if she is nothing. It was time for ‘asr then and we prayed and then went back to the court room in which they preceded to talk about jury selection. The hearing then ended soon after and the marshall shoved Aafia out again while she was talking.

Dear brothers and sisters remember her in your prayers and make du’aa against those who harm our sister. What more motivation can I give to people to attend her hearings and the hearings of the other aseer?

The worst part is Aafia is a female and she is our honor and our pride. Where are the men of the ummah??? My brothers posting on forums does not make one a man, my brothers while you sit and get into arguments over silly things , the kuffar are pushing our sister around!!! And still people need more incentive and to be constantly reminded to reach out to the prisoners and still people sit back and remain quiet. Don’t wait for it to be your mother or your sister or your wife in their hands la qadr Allah. Don’t wait until you’re in that position to do something for the prisoners. By Allah after leaving that court room I could not get back into focus of my own world. I felt angry with the ummah for abandoning Aafia in her time of need. The sun shined that day into the court room, but all around Aafia was a dark cloud of injustice. The effects of that dark cloud followed me all the way home and thoughts of my beloved sister haunted me all night. Sleep escaped my eyes but the tears would not stop flowing until the morning hours of fajr.

Ya Allah hasten the release of this poor woman from the hands of the kafireen!
Ya Allah punish the oppressors!

Allahumma fukka qayda asrana wa asral muslimeen wa ruddahum ilaa ahlihim salimeen!!!

Our Dear sister, Aafia Siddique.

If this doesn’t wake you up, then know you don’t have a heart in your chest.
